HJ series rigid laryngoscopes are used to assess the larynx, epiglottis and vocal folds. A wide direction of view — 70° or 90° — is required because the larynx lies at an angle to the axis of introduction through the mouth.
Two diameters are available: 8 mm giving a brighter image and wider field of view, and 6 mm for patients with limited mouth opening or a strong gag reflex. Working length is 185 mm in both variants.
The optics work with the Mekoda camera system, allowing the examination to be recorded and attached to the patient record — important for monitoring changes over time and for medico-legal purposes.
